Cadets hone their weapon handling skills

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) is here to help pupils between the ages of 12 and 18 to develop both personally and physically by providing a large range of fun, exciting, challenging and adventurous opportunities. The CCF follows a tried and tested training programme where they will be instructed in drill, uniform upkeep, advanced skill at arms, field craft, range firing, first aid, map & compass, camp craft, rifle ranges, assault courses, military knowledge, command tasks, full bore rifle shooting, .22 rifle shooting, leadership training. All this will allow cadets to gain cadet qualifications along the way.
Recently, our CCF students and adults experienced just this as they all took part in our 'Gunslinger' event.
Cadets from Year 9-13 stayed after school on Friday evening to attend revision sessions and re-take their Weapon Handling Tests in preparation for their Shooting Day in May, and their Summer Camp in June.
Year 8 cadets have also been staying after school in order to train on air rifles. They all successfully passed their Weapon Handling Tests on the air rifles, in preparation for a very long weekend of training on the L98 A2 Weapon System. Once again, their enormous efforts paid off and they are fully trained and ready to fire on live ranges and blank firing exercises. Cadets are looking forward to receiving their Air Rifle and GP Rifle badges, as well as firing the air rifles during their 'Alternative Summer Camp' in Jul
Adventure training is something the cadets will take part in throughout the year, in all weathers. Activities include high wire course, mountain biking, hill walking, climbing, orienteering, canoeing and abseiling to mention a few. Here they will learn technical skills, leadership and how to embrace the outdoors!
