The Pupil Premium is additional funding for schools in England. It aims to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities, and to close the gaps between them and their peers.
During the 2024/2025 academic year, the Pupil Premium is supporting 271 students with an additional £1,050 per student to enable them to reach their potential.
At the Samworth Church Academy, we use the Pupil Premium in several ways, such as:
- Targeted English literacy intervention
- Teaching assistant support for the most vulnerable students in Year 11
- One-to-one tutoring in key subjects
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for students who require support regulating their behaviour and emotions
- Focusing on increasing attendance and addressing the reasons behind persistent absences
Students who qualify for the Pupil Premium include:
- Those recorded as eligible for free school meals or have been recorded as eligible in the past 6 years
- Children who are cared for by the local authority - looked-after children (LAC)
- Previously looked-after children (PLAC)
- Those who have a parent serving in the regular armed forces, or if one of their parents died whilst serving in the armed forces and the student receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme.
