Congratulations to Samworth Church Academy student Jake North, who won two gold medals and two silver medals at the 2024 ICO World Combat Martial Arts Championships in Frankfurt, Germany. Jake was supported by the Opportunity Trust, which helped pay towards his England kit and category fees.

This was Jake's 2nd kickboxing world championships, after qualifying to be part of the ICO England national team. Last year Jake won a silver medal at the ICO world Championships held in England, so this was a big step up. This world championships Jake won 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals, making him a double world champion. This is his first world title and his first ever gold medals, so to win them at such a prestigious tournament has been a massive achievement for him. Jake won his gold medals in continuous fighting and ring continuous fighting. His silver medals were in boxing and ring continuous in a heavier weight category. Jake is the youngest person to compete at this level from his kickboxing club.

Jake is very grateful to receive funding from the Opportunity Trust and will train hard to compete in the next qualifiers being held in February 2025 for next year's ICO championships being held in Wales. Jake hopes to retain his titles. Everyone at the Samworth Chuch Academy is so proud of Jake and we wish him all the best with his training and future competitions!

 

What is Opportunity Trust?

The Opportunity Trust was founded by our Sponsors (Sir David Samworth and the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham) to support the wider work of The Samworth Church Academy.  The Opportunity Trust has supported students on various trips abroad, to take part in sports and other activities that they otherwise could not afford to do, including dancing, skiing, golf and martial arts, amongst a whole host of others.
