Remembering our service men & women

11 November 2024

Students and staff at the Samworth Church Academy gathered today to remember our service men and women, past and present. We took a few moments to understand the sacrifice of those who serve for our Armed Forces, and to be grateful for the freedoms we enjoy. We also raised money for the Royal British Legion by selling poppies.

The Exhortation

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

Lest we forget

Two of our values at the Samworth Church Academy are Respect and Service. Members of our Combined Cadet Force saw firsthand examples of this as they recently took part in a trip to Belgium, where they gained a deeper understanding of the sacrifice made by those who came before us.

Students visited War Memorials such as the Tyne Cot British Cemetery and the Langemark German Cemetery, and took part in the Last Post Ceremony held at the Menin Gate in Ypres, and visited the Somme. This learning experience was partly funded by Opportunity Trust.
