Sparx Science & Maths

28 April 2026

We are delighted to inform you that we, as a school, have invested in a new homework and support platform called Sparx, beginning on 29th April and for the subjects of maths and science. Where Sparx is different is that it provides highly personalised homework to students, tailored to their individual attainment level and working speed. Students receive immediate feedback for each question, ensuring the learning is relevant to your child and their particular need. Added to this, they will earn rewards via XP for completion and effort and those pupils with the highest XP will be placed into weekly and termly draws to win prizes.

Please find below the website address for both of the Sparx platforms. Your child has already been shown how to use the platform and has login details, and it can be accessed on any device that connects to the internet with a web browser, including  smartphones.

We understand how important your child’s success is to you. Below, you’ll find information about each platform, along with practical advice on how you can support them to complete their homework each week.

Sparx Maths & Science Homework

Your child’s maths & science homework will be set on Wednesdays and due in the following Wednesday. Each week teachers will set roughly 30 minutes of maths & 30 minutes of science homework. However, this may vary depending upon the topic being covered. Teachers will set topics for homework that have recently been covered in class, and this will make up the majority of each child’s homework, but it will also include some questions from previously learnt topics to help consolidate learning.

Each Sparx question includes a support video, helping your child find the guidance they need on their own. This ensures they always have the tools to succeed. Students also have the autonomy to further develop their mathematical & scientific knowledge if they desire, via the ‘Independent Learning’ section of the platform. Homework will only be marked complete when 100% of the compulsory questions are answered correctly

You can also find out more about Sparx Maths on the dedicated parent page - www.sparxmaths.com/parents

How can you help your child with their homework?

  • Provide a quiet space for your child to focus on their homework, with minimal distractions.
  • Encourage your child to start their homework early.
  • Please let them attempt questions independently. Sparx Learning will automatically adjust the level of questions provided based on your child’s answers.
  • Keep track of your child’s progress within their homework by checking the weekly email sent to you from Sparx.

What support is available at Samworth Academy

  • Maths and science teachers will remind students of homework deadlines during each lesson. Students are welcome to ask for help from their teacher at the start and end of lessons.
  • Homework club during enrichment takes place on a Monday and Wednesday during P6. Any student is welcome to attend and complete their homework.
  • All students have spent a lesson logging into & practicing on Sparx maths and science during this week. All students are able to log in.

If a student doesn’t complete 80% of their weekly assigned homework a 30 minute detention will be set.
