Round Square Conference 2024
Well done to Samworth Church Academy students and staff, who recently hosted an international Round Square Conference right here in Mansfield.
With over 95 students aged 12-14 and staff from 13 schools from the UK, Germany, India, the USA, Peru, Bangladesh and Denmark coming to visit us in Mansfield, it was a fun and busy weekend of bushcraft, camping and making new friends!
The Round Square delegates arrived at the Academy on Thursday 30th May and were well looked after by our Student Leadership team, taking part in archery, climbing, sports and ice breaking barazas. After a fabulous meal provided by our Academy catering team, we headed to The Bushcraft Centre near Castle Howard, North Yorkshire. Our Round Square friends spent 2 nights under canvas in the woods and enjoyed bushcraft activities such as cooking outdoors, working with knifes to carve wood, camouflage and concealment, and basic first aid. They also learned to build fires and sparked many new friendships along the way.
The visiting staff were taken into York for some sightseeing and gift buying. We returned to the Academy for some more amazing food, a well-deserved shower and the event closed with a disco and ice-cream van.
We would like to thank all the staff and student leaders who made this event possible, and look forward to seeing more of our Round Square friends soon!
