Introduction to the Subject
In the English Department, we offer a comprehensive curriculum to broaden the physical and metaphorical horizons of our students and enrich the knowledge of their literary heritage. When your child arrives with us at Key Stage 3, they will study seminal playwrights such as Shakespeare; poets such Robert Frost and William Wordsworth; and the local author D. H. Lawrence. This will equip the students with a strong foundation for their English Literature GCSE.
What We Study
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet
The Nineteenth-Century Text: Either Shelley’s Frankenstein, Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, or Dicken’s A Christmas Carol
J. B. Priestley’s An Inspector Calls
The ‘Power and Conflict’ cluster from the Poetry Anthology
Unseen Poetry
